What is a used car warranty?

Buy a second hand car and the manufacturer's warranty has probably run out. A used car warranty picks up where that ends. If something mechanical or electrical breaks, the warranty can pay for the repair instead of you.

A car warranty is different from car insurance. Car insurance is designed for accidents and theft. A warranty gives you a plan for unexpected mechanical and electrical failures: the engine, gearbox, electrics, and hundreds of other parts that can go wrong without warning.

Some dealers include a short warranty when you buy from them. These dealer warranties typically last 3 months and only include the basics. An extended car warranty like ours runs for up to 5 years and includes far more: breakdown assistance via the AA, a hire car while yours is being fixed, and hotel costs if you are stranded, where applicable.

What does a warranty include?

Every plan includes these as standard, regardless of your plan level:

  • £0 voluntary contribution towards authorised repair costs.
  • Unlimited repairs up to your car’s value over the life of your warranty plan.
  • AA breakdown assistance, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Car hire benefit, where applicable, while your vehicle is being repaired.
  • Hotel and onward travel benefits.
  • Repairs in Europe, reimbursed at UK rates, in line with your warranty plan.
  • Independent review by an industry expert if you disagree with a repair decision.

Your warranty plan level is based on your vehicle's fuel type, age and mileage. Different plan levels are designed around different vehicle components and repair contribution limits. The price is the same for every plan level.

How It Works

1

Check your vehicle

Enter your registration and mileage. We check eligibility instantly and tell you which plan level you get.

2

Choose your term

Pick from 12 to 60 months. The price is the same whichever plan level is available for your vehicle.

3

Pay securely

Pay by card, or spread the cost with Klarna in three interest-free instalments.

Is a used car warranty worth it?

A major engine or gearbox repair can easily cost thousands of pounds. On a car outside its manufacturer's warranty, you pay the full bill yourself.

A Brumble warranty plan starts at £399 for 12 months, often less than the cost of a single clutch replacement.

Whether it is worth it depends on your car. Older vehicles and those with higher mileage are more likely to need repairs. Premium brands like BMW, Audi, and Mercedes tend to have higher parts costs, so the potential saving is larger.

You do not need to have your car inspected before buying. Enter your registration and we will tell you which plan level is available for your car in under a minute.

Plan Levels

Warranty FAQs

Everything you need to know about our car warranty plans.

Your plan level is based on your vehicle’s age and mileage. All levels include mechanical and electrical failure with a £0 voluntary contribution and unlimited repairs up to the value of your vehicle, plus car hire, repairs in Europe reimbursed at UK rates, roadside assistance and recovery, and hotel and onward travel. Platinum Plus and Platinum also include MOT failure, and Platinum Plus adds airbag, multimedia and driver assist benefits.
Your warranty plan starts from day one for sudden failures and breakdowns. There is a period of 30 days or 500 miles, whichever comes first, at the start of the plan during which premature failures (faults that were already developing before the warranty began) are not included.
Vehicles up to 15 years old with under 150,000 miles, registered in Great Britain. Petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicles are all eligible. Enter your registration above and we will tell you instantly whether a plan is available for your vehicle and which plan level it gets.
Repairs are handled directly by Warrantywise, who underwrite and administer the plan. You contact them with your plan reference, they assess the repair request, and if approved they can pay for authorised repairs at any VAT-registered garage. Brumble is not involved in the repair process.
Yes. Klarna Pay in 3 is available at checkout, splitting the cost into three interest-free instalments. You can also pay in full by card. Either way your warranty plan starts straight away.
Yes. You can cancel within 14 days of your plan’s issue date for a full refund. After 14 days you can still cancel and get a refund for the unused part of your plan, minus a £50 cancellation fee and the cost of any authorised repairs. You must give 30 days’ notice when you wish to cancel your plan.
No. This is a discretionary warranty, not an insurance product. Each repair request is checked against your plan terms, so not every repair will be paid for. Warrantywise plans are not regulated by the FCA. If you are unhappy with a repair decision, you can request independent review by Edd China, who has the authority to overturn decisions.
Your warranty does not auto-renew. We will email you before it expires and you can renew from your Brumble account, so your plan does not lapse without you choosing to let it.
