Can you get a warranty on an older car?

Yes. Brumble warranty plans are available on cars up to 15 years old and 150,000 miles when you buy. Once your plan starts, it can carry on until your car is 18 years old or reaches 200,000 miles.

Many warranty providers stop at much younger cars, or charge more as cars get older. With Brumble, the price is the same whatever the age of your car.

Each repair request is reviewed individually by Warrantywise.

Which plan level will my car get?

Your plan level is based on your car’s fuel type, age and mileage when you buy. The price is the same at every level.

Plan level by car age and mileage
Plan levelCar age and mileage when you buy
Platinum PlusPetrol, diesel or hybrid, up to 6 years and 60,000 miles
PlatinumPetrol, diesel or hybrid, up to 8 years and 80,000 miles
GoldPetrol, diesel or hybrid, over 8 years or over 80,000 miles, up to 15 years and 150,000 miles

Gold includes the main parts that are most likely to fail as a car gets older, such as the engine, gearbox and clutch. Your plan booklet lists every part.

What goes wrong as cars get older? Brumble's MOT analysis

We looked at 2025 MOT test results to see how cars change with age. The older the car, the more often it fails.

What does a warranty include?

Every plan includes these as standard, regardless of your plan level:

  • £0 voluntary contribution towards authorised repair costs.
  • Unlimited repairs up to your vehicle’s value over the life of your warranty plan.
  • AA breakdown assistance, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Car hire benefit, where applicable, while your vehicle is being repaired.
  • Hotel and onward travel benefits.
  • Repairs in Europe, reimbursed at UK rates, in line with your warranty plan.
  • Independent review by an industry expert if you disagree with a repair decision.

Your warranty plan level is based on your vehicle's fuel type, age and mileage. Different plan levels are designed around different vehicle components and repair contribution limits. The price is the same for every plan level.

Why servicing matters on an older car

You need to service your car as the manufacturer recommends for as long as your plan lasts, or Warrantywise can turn down repair requests and cancel your plan.

Regular servicing also helps catch problems early, before they turn into bigger repairs.

This is a discretionary warranty, not an insurance product. Each repair request is reviewed individually, based on the vehicle, the circumstances at the time and your warranty plan. Payments are not guaranteed. Read the full terms.

Good to know before you buy

Your plan starts with breakdown help from day one. Faults that were already developing when you bought the plan (called premature failures) are only considered after the first 30 days or 500 miles.

Once a car is over 10 years old or has covered 100,000 miles, premature failures are no longer considered. Sudden breakdowns still are.

Buying an older car?

Check its history before you buy. A Brumble vehicle report shows outstanding finance, write-offs, stolen checks, a valuation and full MOT history for £9.99.

Your car must have covered under 150,000 miles when you buy. Your plan can then continue until your car reaches 200,000 miles.
No. The price is the same whatever the age or mileage of your car, from £399 for 12 months.
Your plan ends when your car reaches 18 years old or 200,000 miles, even if there is time left on it. It’s worth bearing in mind when you choose your term.
Yes. You need to service your car as the manufacturer recommends for as long as your plan lasts, or Warrantywise can turn down repair requests and cancel your plan.
It depends on your car and how much you could pay for a big repair. Older cars fail their MOT more often, and a major engine or gearbox repair can easily cost thousands of pounds. A plan can help spread that risk.
