What is an electric car warranty?

An electric car warranty can help pay towards repairs to included parts on your EV. Each repair request is reviewed individually by Warrantywise.

Many new electric cars come with a manufacturer’s warranty for the car, and often a separate warranty for the battery. Once the car’s warranty ends, you’d usually pay for repairs yourself unless you have a warranty plan.

A Brumble plan can work as an EV extended warranty once the manufacturer’s warranty ends. Plans are available on fully electric cars and vans up to 15 years old and 150,000 miles.

What does a warranty include?

Every plan includes these as standard, regardless of your plan level:

  • £0 voluntary contribution towards authorised repair costs.
  • Unlimited repairs up to your vehicle’s value over the life of your warranty plan.
  • AA breakdown assistance, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Car hire benefit, where applicable, while your vehicle is being repaired.
  • Hotel and onward travel benefits.
  • Repairs in Europe, reimbursed at UK rates, in line with your warranty plan.
  • Independent review by an industry expert if you disagree with a repair decision.

Your warranty plan level is based on your vehicle's fuel type, age and mileage. Different plan levels are designed around different vehicle components and repair contribution limits. The price is the same for every plan level.

Is the drive battery included?

On EV Plus, the drive battery is included. EV Plus is for fully electric vehicles 6 years old or under with 60,000 miles or under.

On EV, the drive battery is not included.

On both plans, a gradual loss of battery capacity over time is not included. Neither is a battery that has been left flat for 14 days or more in a row. Your plan booklet has the full details.

Electric Car Warranty FAQs

Common questions about electric car warranty plans.

On EV Plus, the drive battery is included. On EV, it is not included. On both plans, a gradual loss of battery capacity over time is not included, and neither is a battery that has been left flat for 14 days or more in a row. Your plan booklet has the full details.
It depends on your car and how you feel about unexpected repair bills. Some electric car repairs can be costly, and a plan can help pay towards repairs that Warrantywise approve. Each repair request is reviewed individually, so a plan does not mean every repair will be paid for. If your car still has a manufacturer’s warranty, you may not need a plan yet. It can help to compare the price of a plan with what you could pay for a repair yourself.
Many electric cars have a separate battery warranty from the manufacturer. Warrantywise will not pay for a part that is still under another warranty, so you would use the manufacturer’s warranty for that part first. If your plan starts straight after your manufacturer’s warranty ends, the usual 30 day or 500 mile wait for premature failures does not apply.
Yes. Fully electric vans get the same EV Plus or EV plans as fully electric cars, based on age and mileage.
Yes. A Brumble plan can work as an extended warranty once your manufacturer’s warranty ends. Plans are available on electric cars and vans up to 15 years old and 150,000 miles.
Yes. Both full hybrids and plug-in hybrids are eligible, on the same plans as petrol and diesel. Fully electric vehicles get the EV Plus or EV plan.
EV work needs a suitably qualified technician. Warrantywise will authorise a garage able to carry out the repair, or use their own network.
