How much does it cost to finance a Tesla?

Tesla sits in the premium EV segment. A used Model 3 is the most accessible entry point, while a used Model S or Model X is a larger commitment. Tesla has adjusted its new car pricing several times in recent years, which has affected used values. This volatility means used Tesla prices can shift, so checking current market pricing before committing to finance is important.

The monthly cost depends on the model, the amount you borrow, the term length, and the APR you are offered. Rates start from 9.9% APR. Representative 19.8% APR.

One of the advantages of financing a used Tesla is that running costs tend to be lower than petrol or diesel cars. There is no road tax on zero-emission vehicles registered before April 2025, charging is generally cheaper than fuelling, and there are fewer moving parts to maintain.

Popular Tesla models to finance

Tesla is one of the most popular brands to finance in the UK. Whether you are looking at a used Model 3 or a used Model X, HP and PCP are both available via Brumble. Once approved, you can get your car from any verified UK dealer. Here are some of the most commonly financed Tesla models.

  • Tesla Model 3

The most popular Tesla in the UK. Used Model 3s are widely available and could offer an affordable entry into Tesla ownership.

  • Tesla Model Y

A practical electric SUV. Used Model Ys are becoming more available as early agreements end.

  • Tesla Model S

Tesla's luxury saloon with long range. Depreciation from new could mean used Model S examples are more accessible on finance.

  • Tesla Model X

A large electric SUV with distinctive falcon-wing doors. Used Model Xs have depreciated significantly, which could work in the buyer's favour.

What are my Tesla finance options?

HP for your Tesla

With HP (Hire Purchase), you make fixed monthly payments and own the Tesla at the end of the agreement. No mileage limits apply. Given Tesla's over-the-air software updates and long battery lifespan, many owners plan to keep their Teslas for years, which could make HP a practical fit.

Tesla PCP

Tesla PCP gives you lower monthly payments than HP. At the end, you can hand the car back, pay the balloon to keep it, or use any equity towards your next car.

Tesla used values have been subject to more volatility than some other brands, partly due to Tesla's own pricing adjustments on new cars. If your Tesla holds its value on the used market, there is potential to build equity, but this is particularly uncertain with Tesla compared to some other brands. Used car values are never guaranteed.

Tesla PCP is often available on the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X, subject to status.

Your rights during the agreement

With both HP and PCP, you have the right to end the agreement early through voluntary termination or early settlement.

Both HP and PCP may be available with no deposit on some Tesla models, subject to status and affordability. Given Tesla's higher values, a deposit could significantly reduce your monthly payments.

Via Brumble, you can check what options you could be eligible for with a soft search. There is no impact on your credit score. If you then choose to proceed, a hard credit search will be carried out which may impact your credit score.

Should I lease a Tesla or finance one?

Leasing and finance are different. With a lease, you never own the car. With finance, you have the option to own it.

Why finance may suit Tesla buyers

Tesla ownership has some unique benefits. Over-the-air software updates mean the car can improve over time, adding features and performance. HP lets you own the car outright and benefit from those updates indefinitely. With a lease, you hand it back.

Tesla's Supercharger network is available to all Tesla owners, regardless of whether the car is financed, leased, or bought outright. However, owning the car through finance means you benefit from any improvements to the charging network and software ecosystem long-term.

Finance gives you the right to voluntary termination and early settlement. Leasing typically penalises early exit. Finance also lets you modify or accessorise your Tesla without restrictions.

Can I finance a used Tesla?

Yes. Both HP and PCP may be available on used and second hand Teslas from verified UK dealers. Via Brumble, you can finance a used Tesla from any verified dealer.

It is worth noting that Tesla sells its cars directly, not through traditional dealerships. However, used Teslas are widely available from independent dealers and approved used car outlets. Finance via Brumble works with any verified dealer, whether or not they are affiliated with Tesla.

Most lenders allow the car to be up to around 14 to 16 years old at the end of the agreement, though this varies. Given that Teslas are relatively new to the UK market, most used examples are well within these limits.

Before financing any used Tesla, check the battery health and range. Battery degradation varies and could affect the car's range and value. Our MOT checker and tax checker are free to use. Our Tesla reliability report covers common issues.

Is it hard to get finance for a Tesla?

Tesla models are premium-priced, so borrowing amounts tend to be larger. The Model 3 is the most accessible on finance, while the Model S and Model X are higher commitments.

Lenders assess whether the repayments are affordable based on your income and outgoings. Choosing a used Model 3 rather than a Model S could make the affordability assessment more straightforward.

How Reliable Are Used Teslas?

According to DVSA MOT data analysed by Brumble, Tesla has a national MOT pass rate of 83.8%, based on 0.12 million tests in the 2025 test year. The national average across all brands is 72.4%.

This places Tesla above the national average, which could indicate that used Teslas may be less likely to have issues at MOT time compared to some other brands. However, individual results depend on the car's age, mileage, and maintenance history.

The most common MOT advisory and failure items on Tesla vehicles include suspension components, tyre wear, and bodywork issues. Checking these areas before purchasing could help you avoid unexpected costs during your finance agreement.

Our free MOT checker lets you look up any vehicle's full MOT history by registration number. For a more detailed assessment, our Tesla reliability report breaks down pass rates by model, age, and mileage.

Does Tesla offer 0% finance?

Tesla has occasionally offered promotional finance rates, though 0% APR has been rare. Tesla arranges its own finance directly through its website, not through dealerships. These promotions, when available, are only on new cars and are not available on used vehicles.

Brumble's partner offers used car finance as an alternative. Rates start from 9.9% APR, subject to status.
